What is the difference between a parson and a plumber? The parson looks after the brethren and the plumber looks after the cistern. Hiss.......... that is the sound of your money going down the toilet. That sound is your cistern constantly filling up as the cistern leaks water into the toilet bowl. When a tap is leaking, we can visibly see it however a toilet cistern leaks into the bowl and therefore is not so obvious and these are the greatest cause of water leaks in domestic homes. We suggest you take a second or two to listen out for […]

There are 4 main reasons we get called to fix a shower leak: 1) The shower head is leaking. It gets blocked, is loose or the seals are broken. 2) The tap handles are leaking. The spindles leak as the 'O' rings are worn. 3) The inner washer is worn. This is the most common cause for […]

Water Leaks; reticulation

We often receive phone calls from clients who have received a higher than normal water bill.  We advise people to check their reticulation systems as very often this is the source of the water leak.  These can go unnoticed for quite a period of time but can incur high water bills. Reticulation cut in are normally included when building a new home as part of the builders package.  However some existing properties do not have automatic reticulation systems.  We can supply and install approved isolating valves with built in back flow protection. It is the job of a licenced plumber […]

Storm Water Drain Channels

As Winter sets in storm water drain channels is an area that plumbers are involved with. Often people find storm water will flood their garage.   A way of preventing this is to install a storm water channel across the entrance to the garage with this channel piped to a soak well. In the past these channels were made from earthenware (baked clay) with a galvanised steel grate.  Nowadays they are made from tough, recycled UV stabilised polymer allowing for an easier installation.  Different manufacturers provide a range of colour options. We at Capricorn Plumbing have installed the Everhard EasyDRAIN system […]
